Cancel or move a lesson

Call off one lesson or the rest of a series, or move lessons to a new time, and know who lessonu tells.

Before you begin

  • The lesson is still booked. A completed lesson has no cancel buttons.

Warning: There's no undo for a cancel. In the lesson's panel, Delete isn't a cancel: it removes the lesson and tells nobody.

  1. Open the lesson

On a phone: tap Calendar in the bottom bar, then tap the lesson.

In Month view on a phone, tap the day first, then the lesson in the list.

On a computer: select Calendar in the sidebar.

On a computer: point at the lesson, then click View details →.

The buttons are at the bottom of the panel.

  2. Cancel one lesson

Tap the red Cancel this one.

A box asks Cancel this lesson?

The student and any linked parent are told it's off.

Package lesson? Leave Give the credit back to their package ticked, unless they cancelled too late.

    Tap Cancel lesson.

Changed your mind? Tap Keep lesson.

The lesson stays on the calendar, faded and crossed out.

  3. Move one lesson

In the lesson's panel, tap Edit Lesson.

Change Start time, and End time if the length changes.

    Tap Update lesson.

A student or parent with a lessonu login is emailed the new time.

A family with no lessonu login isn't told. Tell them yourself.

  4. Cancel the rest of a series

Open the first lesson you want to cancel.

Tap Cancel future. It only shows on a repeating lesson.

Your browser asks you to confirm. Tap OK.

Each person gets one email, not one per lesson.

  5. Move the rest of a series

Open the first lesson you want to move, then tap Edit Series.

Change Start time. It can move up to 24 hours either way.

    Tap Update lesson.

Edit Series emails nobody. Tell the family yourself.

Good to know

  • A booked one-to-one lesson on a paid invoice shows Paid in advance. If you cancel it, the money goes back to the student's credit, not to a card.
  • When you cancel a lesson, the family is never charged a late-cancellation fee, however close to the lesson it is. For a late package cancel, untick Give the credit back to their package.
  • If you've turned off Notify on reschedule, in Settings → Notifications, families aren't told about any move, not even in lessonu.

Questions

The lesson was on an invoice I'd sent. What now?

If the lesson is on an invoice you've sent, the invoice doesn't change. Cancel that invoice in Invoices and send a new one.

Send an invoice shows how.

A student didn't turn up. Should I cancel the lesson?

Not if you're charging for it. Open it and tap Mark Completed.

Cancelling gives back the package credit, or any money paid in advance.

A family asked to move a lesson. Do I need to do anything?

With the usual settings, a family's move to a free time inside your hours goes through by itself.

Other requests wait under Approvals at the top of the Calendar. Tap Approve or Deny.

On a phone, Approvals is an icon with an amber number.

I'm away for a week. Can I cancel all those lessons at once?

Yes, with Time off on the Availability page. It cancels the lessons in those dates.

With Email the families ticked, everyone affected gets one email listing their cancelled lessons. Set your availability shows how.

Can I add a reason when I cancel?

Not for one lesson or a series. Only Time off has a note for families.

My trial has ended. Can I still cancel lessons?

Not until you choose a plan. lessonu says “subscribe to make changes”.

The same goes for changing a series with Edit Series.
