Before you start the trial

I have 25 students in a spreadsheet. Do I have to retype them?
No — send us the spreadsheet and we’ll import them for you, free, however messy it is. Email it to hi@lessonu.com when you start the trial. Setting up shouldn’t cost you the Sunday evening we’re trying to give back.
Most of my students pay by bank transfer. Does that work?
Yes. Bank transfer, BPAY and cash all work, and there’s no platform fee on any of them. Be clear on one thing though: lessonu doesn’t read your bank feed, so when a transfer lands you mark that invoice paid — one tap. Card payments through Stripe mark themselves.
What does taking a card payment actually cost me?
Our platform fee is 1%, and only on card payments — $0 on bank transfer, BPAY and cash. On top of that Stripe charges its own processing fee (currently about 1.75% + 30¢ on Australian cards), which goes to Stripe, not to us. So a $85 lesson paid by card costs roughly $2.40 all in. Paid by transfer, it costs nothing.
If I cancel, do I lose my invoices? The ATO wants five years.
No. You can export everything — invoices, payments, students — as CSV or straight to Xero, at any time while you’re subscribed, and for 30 days after you cancel. After that we delete it, because holding your students’ personal information longer than we need it isn’t ours to do. Export before you go and your records are yours to keep.
