vs TutorCruncher
TutorCruncher takes one percent on every parent payment. lessonu’s flat plan doesn’t.
TutorCruncher is the most agency-shaped tutoring platform in the AU market — ten years of multi-tutor workflows, native AUD billing, GoCardless direct debit. The catch is the take-rate: 0.65–1% on every payment processed, on top of the plan fee. At a 5-teacher school doing modest volume that stacks up fast.
The numbers
Boutique tutoring school, 5 teachers, A$8,000 / mo invoice volume.
TutorCruncher
A$155 / mo
A$45 plan fee + 0.65% × A$8,000 + features unlocked higher up the tier — typical landed cost for a 5-teacher operation.
lessonu
A$99 / mo
School plan, flat. Up to 10 teachers, 1% only on card payments. ~A$56 / mo less, scales the same as you grow.
↑ same school, same workload, two different bills.
How TutorCruncher prices
A$45–A$400 / mo + 0.65–1% of client payments. Five tiers, tier ladder bundles different feature sets. Native AUD billing — but the percentage take applies on top, on every invoice processed. tutorcruncher.com/pricing/au — verified May 2026.
What changes when you switch
Three things move.
1% on every payment compounds
TutorCruncher's published rate is 0.65–1% of client payments processed. On A$10,000 / mo invoice volume that's A$65–A$100 a month, every month, on top of the plan fee. lessonu takes 1% only on card payments — bank transfer and cash are $0 — and the flat subscription is the bulk of what you pay.
Flat per-school pricing scales better at 5+ teachers
TutorCruncher's tier ladder unlocks features as you climb (Branded SMS, Teacher pay reports, etc.). lessonu's School plan ships every feature in the box at A$99 / mo for up to 10 teachers — no per-seat tax, no climbing the ladder to unlock the basics.
Family billing folds three kids into one Stripe Checkout
If a parent has three children on lessons, lessonu sends one invoice, one Checkout session, one receipt. TutorCruncher requires manual consolidation in the agency interface or per-student processing. The first time a parent gets three separate Stripe receipts they ask why; family billing is the answer.
Honest section
Where TutorCruncher still wins.
A comparison that doesn’t admit anything is a sales sheet, not an analysis. Two places TutorCruncher is genuinely the better choice.
TutorCruncher owns the agency-grade workflow
Ten years of client / contractor / tutor / parent role-mapping that a younger product can't replicate overnight. If you run a 50-tutor agency with sub-agencies, multi-currency clients, and a contractor 1099-equivalent flow, they're still the safer bet.
GoCardless direct debit is meaningful in AU
Recurring lesson payments via direct debit (BECS in AU, GoCardless rails) are cheaper for parents than card subs and have a different chargeback profile. TutorCruncher supports both. lessonu is Stripe-only today (cards + Apple/Google Pay) — we're evaluating BECS but it's not shipped.
